I grew up in Midland, Michigan before
moving to Wisconsin. Education was always very important in my family.
After supper my mother quizzed my three siblings and me on spelling words
and helped us proof read reports. My dad helped us wrestle with the
toughest math problems. Similarly, my husband, Rick, and I have worked
with our own children, Tom and Christie, now both students at UW-Madison.
We still proofread papers via email as our children’s education continues
to be very important to us.
In terms of my own education, I attended UW-Oshkosh and received my BS in Psychology. I was a social worker with the developmentally delayed and then an educational coordinator for young offenders. I completed my Masters in Social Work with an emphasis on physical and mental health at UW-Milwaukee. While our children were young, I completed courses part time to obtain my K-6th grade teaching certificate. Following five years of teaching, I began my work as a school social worker and am currently in my fifth year. I have always loved working with children and parents, in a “team” approach, so this has been very rewarding to me.
n my free time, I enjoy cooking, needlework, walking, raising plants, and getting together with family and friends. Pets have also been the center of our home for many years, including Tasha, a feisty, but lovable Jack Russell Terrier and Coquina (named after a beach shell), our gray Tabby from the Humane Society.
If you would like parent resources for such things as study skills, attention difficulties, test anxiety, or other areas, I would be glad to work with you or connect you with other community resources. Please feel free to call me on Fridays at Classical or email me.
