Ellen Holcomb
Third Grade Teacher

Welcome to the 2007 – 2008 school year!

I am very excited about teaching third grade again at Classical  School, and am looking forward to meeting all of my new students and their parents.  The students at Classical are fantastic, and it is great to have parents who are intrinsically involved with the school.

My favorite year in school was third grade. Maybe that’s why I like teaching at this grade level so well. My teacher, Mrs. Simcox, was both kind and challenging.  At school, I enjoyed reading, especially the “Bobbsey Twins” series, and playing with my friends at recess.

I grew up in LaPorte, Indiana, a small Midwestern town.  A large part of my time was spent with my family and, relatives.  My parents made education priority in our home, and encouraged my sisters and me to seek college degrees.  I greatly appreciated their support and help during my collegiate years at Purdue University, where I graduated with a B.A. in Elementary Education.  Additionally, while there I met my husband, Mark.

We have been blessed with three lovely daughters, and participating in my daughters’ childhoods as a stay at home mom was very rewarding.  However, as they grew older I reentered the educational field by substituting in the Appleton School System and teaching fourth grade for two years at the Fox Valley Christian Academy.  I started working at Classical School in the fall of 2001.

We have had quite an exciting summer.  My youngest sister was married in  August.  We had a wonderful celebration.  Traveling to San Francisco and graduating from Viterbo University with my Masters were also highlights.  I am looking forward to a great year with my new third grade class.
