Hello! Welcome to my bio page!
This is my second year teaching at Classical School, and I am very excited to be teaching both elementary and middle school art. Art and teaching are my true passions, and I feel very fortunate to have a job doing what I adore. This will be my sixth year teaching for the Appleton Area School District.
My Background:
I was born and raised in Oshkosh, and still
live there with my husband, Michael, my two dogs (Gage and Harley), and
my hamster (Millie). My husband is a police officer for the city
of Fond du Lac. He is my best friend, and my best travel partner.
I graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, and this summer I completed my master’s work in Creative Arts in Learning through Lesley College in Cambridge, Massachusetts. I grew up in the arts, and learned to draw from my father. My first painting set came from my uncle, an artist who lived with Muscular Dystrophy, and painted using his mouth. I had absolutely wonderful art teachers all throughout my schooling, and credit my teachers, father, and uncle with the love of the visual arts. My father died when I was young, and I feel it is an honor, duty, and privilege to be able to carry on his (and my) love for the visual arts to my students. My mother is my hero. She is a beautiful singer, singing with local choirs, and I grew up with a love for the musical arts as well. I played violin for 6 years until my junior year in high school, when my attention turned more towards the visual arts.
What I enjoy:
I enjoy drawing and painting, but love to
dabble in other art areas, such as weaving, ceramics, metal work, and anything
else I can get my hands on. I enjoy the challenge of what a new medium
brings.
I love to read. I also love a good
movie. My favorite types of movies are suspense and horror movies-anything
that keeps you on the edge of your seat. My husband and I love to
travel. Last spring I bought my first Harley. She’s a white
1200 Sportster, and right now she’s my pride and joy. I made my first
ride up to Ashland, WI this summer, and hope to ride next year to Sturgis
on my own bike with my husband. I hope to see many of you as the
year goes by!
