Like many of the founding CCSA Board members, I knew from the moment I discovered the introductory pamphlet, which came home in my first-grade son’s backpack, that I wanted Core Knowledge for my children; to me reading about the curriculum laid out in the tri-fold felt like coming home.  I hadn’t even finished reading the information before I was on the phone, expressing my willingness to do whatever I could to make Classical School a reality for the children of Appleton.  I then spent the next ten years working as a Board member and educator to realize this goal.  Leaving Classical when my family and I moved to Texas two years ago was difficult.  The last two years have been filled with many educational discoveries, however, that I hope to put to good use while serving Classical School once more.

My children, Katie and Alex, are now a junior and senior in high school, respectively.  Plucking them out of Appleton, WI and dropping them into the huge metro area surrounding Houston (wow—what a different culture!)  was nerve-wracking as a parent.  They have handled the challenges with aplomb, however.  I attribute much of their success and maturity level to the educational foundation and strong work ethic instilled during their K-8 years at Classical, as well as the care and nurturing they received from our wonderful Classical teachers and staff.

I received a B.A. in German Language with a concentration in International Studies from Lawrence University and my K-8 teaching certification from St. Norbert College.  I worked for AASD teaching 3rd-5th grades and substitute teaching. It is an honor to work once again with the many talented Board members, teachers, staff, parents and AASD administrators to provide a just and excellent educational foundation for all students.
