I am a parent of a Classical School fifth grader, first grader, and kindergartner. My wife, Hilary, and I have been involved with the Classical School since its planning stages. I have a B.A. in physics from Lawrence and an MDiv. from Trinity Evangelical Diviinity School. I currently work with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, an interdenominational college parachurch ministry on college and university campuses, where my primary assignment is at Lawrence University.
I have been interested in education for
some time, first reading the work of E.D. Hirsch in the mid-80s.
My favorite texts on education are (along with Hirsch) C.S. Lewis' The
Abolition of Man and Dorothy Sayers' The Lost Tools of Learning, which
advocate a principled, classical education and do not avoid foundational
content or moral motivations. I hope to contribute to the direction
already set by the charter school, perhaps helping most in the areas of
communication, philosophy, and curriculum.
