Notes from the Dean – Thankfulness & Joy

Posted on by Classical School

Since our first days in 1999 when we were housed in three separate sites, we’ve come a long way and have much for which to be thankful–every day we work and learn together in our beautiful K-8 facility that AASD, Mr. Schweitzer, and our Jack’s cleaning crew carefully maintain.

Our support staff seamlessly manage the day-to-day running of the school—they are truly the unsung heroes of our school. This group includes Linda Kemps, head secretary; Laura Hinkens, assistant secretary and paraprofessional; Sue Larson, paraprofessional; Keri Lenz, paraprofessional; Rob Cote, paraprofessional; and Sherry King, paraprofessional. Also, our Program Support Specialists, Mrs. Diedrich and Mrs. Bielmeier, coordinate and direct much of our unique program.

Our kind, dedicated teachers and specialists constantly strive to be experts in their fields as they patiently teach our world-renowned, scientifically-proven curriculum. And our students learn more than the curriculum alone–our teachers teach them to strive for excellence in all their endeavors in and out of the classroom and instill the school’s core virtues through word and deed.

Classical parents enable our students’ success. Parent volunteers generously give their time every week–they serve on the CCSA Board of Directors, chaperone field trips, correct papers, and coordinate big school events like Fall Fest and Knowledge-a-thon. Also, our parents’ support of their children is inspiring–the Classical curriculum is rigorous and relies on our parents’ devoted and continued participation.

And of course, we’re thankful for and very proud of our students! They are hardworking and earnest in their studies and the sense of wonder they display as they work and learn is endearing and heartwarming. Classical students are respectful and kind to each other and to teachers and parents–school visitors often tell me they’re impressed by the way our students treat them and each other.

Finally, I am thankful for the opportunity to work with the entire Classical School community. And I am especially thankful for the daily joy I experience watching your children learn and grow.

Wishing you a safe and happy Thanksgiving break!
