Notes from the CCSA Board
Posted on by Classical SchoolWelcome to the 2016-2017 academic year at Classical School. This is our 18th year in operation! The Core Knowledge curriculum remains the firm foundation of our exemplary classical charter school. Classical School has grown immeasurably over the years. This is due in large part to growing enthusiasm for classical education, the many gifts and talents of our dedicated teachers and staff, and the support of our most important educational partners, our parents.
Last year was once again fast-paced and action-packed for the CCSA Board. Anne Tretinyak, Melissa DeVantier, Joanne Bielmeier, Sarah Roe, Kiran Chawla and Tim Broeckert worked diligently to coordinate a thoughtful rollout of the Latin program, begin negotiations of our renewed charter contract with Appleton Area School District, implement educational program committees for world language and writing, and find a new principal for our school.
Kiran Chawla stepped down from the Board this year after many years of service, and we are incredibly grateful to her for all of her guidance and effort since the founding of the school. She looks forward to continuing her involvement as a Classical parent. We have also added a new member to our Board this year. Peter Chen joins us as a father of four, and the son of a former Classical School teacher. He adds value to our Board with a chemical engineering background that will be appreciated as we look to enhance our school’s science program. We are excited to have him join us!
Our strategic planning process this fall included discussion about continuing our existing educational program committees (writing and world language), while beginning to conduct a curriculum review of our science program. We also considered ways to negotiate improvements to our facilities. We will continue to work with AASD on these and other important matters. More information can be found about the strategic plan on our website in the coming weeks. The Board is eager to continue working on a close and communicative relationship with both staff and parents as we seek to implement this strategic plan.
We are looking forward to this year and appreciate the opportunity to serve our school community as members of the Classical Charter School Board.
Thanks for all you do to contribute to the continued success of Classical School!
