Dear Classical Families and Friends, During the past week I finished reading aloud The Lord of the Rings to my ten year old daughter, and I thought that as an educator I should share and promote the joys and benefits of this bonding family tradition. If you stopped reading books to your child after picture books, you ought to give yourself permission to reengage in this worthwhile experience and extend this meaningful endeavor into your child’s later years. As alluded to in the October edition of the Classical Columns, the Board Committee structure was slightly tweaked and the presentation of strategic goals has a new look! We would encourage you to take a look if you haven’t already: 2016-17 Classical School Strategic Plan. Please see our new Board structure and Educational Program Committee structure. AASD All School Fair Promotes Inclusive Options for All Students

The first annual All School Fair will be held on Saturday, January 14th on the second and third floors of the City Center Plaza, 10 E College Avenue, in downtown Appleton from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Interpreters will be available for families whose home language is Spanish or Hmong. Toy Drive: December 12 – December 16

Student Council is assisting in the collection of toys/gifts to be distributed to local families in need. Please bring in new, unwrapped items for children ages 6 months to 17 years and place them in the bins located outside the school office. Some requested items include stuffed animals, board games, books, coloring books and crayons, perfume/cologne/lotion sets for teens, jewelry/watch sets for teens, footballs, basketballs, Barbies, dolls, action figures, building blocks, playsets, earbuds/headsets, slippers, athletic or colorful socks, and stocking stuffers. Upcoming Informational Sessions

Classical School is hosting informational sessions on Wednesdays, December 14, 2016, and January 11, 2017, at 6:30 pm. The sessions will include a presentation to review the school’s mission and philosophy, time for questions, and the opportunity to view curriculum materials. A tour of the school will also be provided for those interested. Current Classical School families who would like to learn more about the school or share insight with prospective families are encouraged to attend. Important Dates to Remember Regarding High School Course Scheduling: December 5, 2016:  Appleton North High School will hold its Explore Scheduling Night from 5:45-7:30pm in the Appleton North Commons. Incoming freshman and their parents should attend to get information on the course scheduling process at Appleton North. December 6, 2016: Classical School Guidance Counselor, Jean Herron, and Enrollment Specialist, Joanne Bielmeier, will hold an optional High School Course Scheduling Question and Answer Session for 8th grade students and their parents at 6:30 pm in the Forum at Classical School.
