Notes from the CCSA Board
Posted on by Classical School
Classical School’s mission is to provide excellence in education for school children through a common foundation. We teach students a contextual body of organized knowledge, the skills of learning within a classical framework, and the values of a democratic society. The Classical Charter School Association (CCSA) board is charged with moving this mission forward. Our strategic plan is the roadmap we have developed for keeping us focused on those activities that will be most beneficial for the success of Classical School. This plan is carefully revised each spring with input from all stakeholder groups including Classical School staff and parents. Below is a brief summary of the key components of our 2017-2018 Strategic Plan. The full Strategic Plan can be found at this link https://tinyurl.com/2017-18-Classical-StratPlan.
Strategic Goal #4- Advocate for charter laws that protect and grow the mission of Classical School– Meeting the obligations of our charter contract with the Appleton Area School District and keeping up with and planning for state and federal legislative changes is challenging. We will continue to share information with you as it become available to us.
Strategic Goal #5- Engage in cyclical curriculum review– Reviewing and updating curriculum is vital for the success of our school and is at the center of our strategic plan. The new Latin curriculum is being implemented in 3rd grade and the World Language Educational Program Committee [EPC] is developing the implementation plan for the 4th grade. The World Language EPC is also exploring ways to strengthen our Spanish curriculum. The CCSA Board approved the implementation of a new writing program in the 5th grade. The English Language Arts EPC will review the strengths and weaknesses of the materials being piloted and make appropriate recommendations to the CCSA Board at the end of this academic year. A new science textbook has also been approved by the CCSA Board and is being fully introduced in the middle school this year. Finally, the strategic plan identified the need to form History and Physical Education EPC’s to assess the strengths and weakness of the curriculum in these areas and the resources needed for quality instruction.
Strategic Goal #8- Strengthen community engagement and support– The CCSA Board continues to look for new and innovative ways to ensure the community at large is aware of the educational choice our school offers. For example, the CCSA Board has entered into a contract with Image Studios to produce a high quality promotional/ informative video. The Board is also looking for new and innovative ways to raise funds to support quality instruction and improve our facility. The Marketing/Alumni relations and Fundraising/Grant Writing Committees have been charged with employing strategies to achieve this and other related strategic goals. We encourage all parents to read the full plan and bookmark it so you can keep up to date on our progress. We always welcome parents to join us in supporting Classical School by volunteering on either the Marketing/Alumni Relations or Fundraising/Grant Writing Committees, attending a board meeting, or becoming a board member. We thank all of those who continue to contribute in any way they can!
