Aviation Session (Gr. 6 – 8)

The 8th grade students were privleged to have Mr. Josh Strahm, commercial airline pilot and Classical School parent, visit their science classes for a presentation on the introduction to the field of aviation and the physics of flight.

Mr. Strahm volunteered to talk about his path to becoming a captain from his initial interest, starting in 7th grade, through flight school and licensure. He explained the physics of flight using Newton’s Laws and Archimede’s Principle, part of the 8th grade Core Knowledge curriculum.and the math skills needed to navigate air and weather conditions during flight.

Mr. Strahm is coming back in February & March to offer after school instruction to 6th-8th grade students interested in the field of aviation. If your child is interested in joining these after school sessions and did not return an interest form, please contact Kathy Diedrich at

The first session will be on Monday, February 22nd from 3:00-4:00 in room 123.
